Orava Castle á la Gustav Klimt:
Gustav Klimt (14.7.1862 - 6.2.1918) was an
Austrian painter and graphic artist, symbolist, one of the most significant
representatives of Art Noveau and leading figure of Vienna modernism. Vivid
colours, geometric shapes and golden elements are characteristic for his works.
The work reflects many legends connected to
Orava castle. About The White Lady, the wife of golden knight Donč, who cut off
her hand, she bled out and until this day, every year on All Saints' Day, she
prays for his soul and forgiveness. About The Black Lady, Elisabeth, the wife
of György Thurzó, who haunts the castle in white gloves with a lantern in her
hand and checks if everything is alright. About the crying Barbora Kostková,
the wife of Ferenc Thurzó, rustling her cloak, wailing and sobbing from the middle
to upper castle. Or about how a rich man wanted to have the Orava castle built
by the devil who was supposed to manage it by the next morning, before the
rooster's third "cock-a-doodle-doo!" in exchange for the soul of the rich man.
The devil did not finish the construction, he was left with only three boulders,
which he throws around out of anger.
