Orava castle á la Edward Munch
Edward Munch (12.12.1863 - 23.1.1944) was a Norwegian painter and draftsman, one of the most famous symbolist painters and a representative of expressionism. His most famous work is undoubtedly The Scream, which is often considered a symbol of modern existential fear.
Munch’s painting style is characterised by strong emotional and psychological charge. Munch used vivid colours, dramatic lines and distorted forms to create intense atmosphere and to transfer his soul’s motives to the canvas.
The painting refers to the cult German silent film “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror” (Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, 1922) which was filmed at Orava castle. In the first horror movie, based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, the main role was played by Max Schneck.
