Bojnice castle á la Gustav Klimt
Gustav Klimt (14.7.1862 - 6.2.1918) was an
Austrian painter and graphic artist, symbolist, one of the most significant
representatives of Art Noveau and leading figure of Vienna modernism. Vivid
colours, geometric shapes and golden elements are characteristic for his works.
The painting is dominated by the last noble
owner of Bojnice castle, Count Ján Pálffy, with his castle as it looks after
the last reconstruction of 1889-1910. Pálffy placed a thorn crown on the top of
a tower as a symbol of unfulfilled love. In the bottom part of the painting
"Lipa kráľa Mateja" is located – a 700-year-old linden tree allegedly planted
by Matthew III Csák (Matúš Čák Trenčiansky). A silhouette of mysterious Black
Lady is hidden in count's right sleeve. "Pókyho dukáty" (Póky's coins) which fall
from count's hand can be found in the vicinity of the castle even nowadays.
